Obituary for Ronald Harry "Ron" Gilbert

Ronald Harry Gilbert

Ron was born June 18, 1949 in Bakersfield CA. He died December 4, 2018 in Coupeville, WA from complications associated with esophageal cancer.

He was adopted at birth by Jack Gilbert and Roxy May Tucker. At 20 years of age he joined the Army and spent a year in Germany. He was honorably discharged in January of 1973. He moved back to Bakersfield and met the love of his life in June 1979. Sandra and Ron were married March 28, 1980.

Ron had a few careers throughout his life; he was a private investigator, he owned a wireline service, he was a truck driver, but the thing that gave him the most joy in life was his barbershop. It was there he made many friends that became family over the 30 years he was a barber.

After moving to Washington in 2017 to be close to his daughter and grandkids, Ron worked at the Navy Exchange Barbershop for a short time where he made some good friends before his cancer got the best of him. He died at Whidbey Health Medical Center with his wife and daughter by his side telling him how much he was loved. He was taken too soon. He died 69 years young with so much life yet to live.

Those who survive Ron are his wife, and other half, Sandra; daughters Rhonda Wright, Jennifer (James) VanCaster, and Wendy Ragsdale; his Grandchildren Robby and Rosalie Wright, Kristen and Jamie VanCaster, Katherine and Josh Ragsdale; one great Grandson Gordon Corson; and one sister Jeanie.

Preceding Ron in death are his parents, Jack and Roxy; and two sisters, Irma and Patty.

The Gilbert family would like to thank the following for making such an impact on Ron and his family: NAS Whidbey Navy Exchange Family, the EMTs and other staff of Whidbey Health, the Veteran’s Administration, and Wallin Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made out to the Gilbert family’s GoFundMe page online at: https://www.gofundme.com/ron-the-barbers-funeral.
